Responding to a survey on
the online dating site iMatchup, over 1,000 members said photos are the most important element of an online profile, with looks having twice the impact of a large income.
Whether online or off, the old adage that looks count still holds true. When coming face-to-face online, nearly 70 percent of respondents said the eyes have it and are, by far, the sexiest facial feature. Paying lip-service to second place, mouths received just 25 percent of the vote. Interestingly, hairstyle is a minor factor at 6 percent.
"Thousands of individuals are turning to our site each day to find fun and romance," reports Dan Levine, iMatchup's romance director, "but those willing to post an attractive photo will have more success than those who don't."
In fact, the survey shows that fully one-third will not respond to an email from someone who is unwilling to post a photo.
A full length photo may also help when putting your best foot forward, especially in light of the fact that those surveyed said legs are a very compelling body part (23 percent), as are a nice chest (26 percent).
Posting more than one photo may also be a good idea since nearly 30 percent of those surveyed believe one's derriere is by far the sexiest feature on a person's body.
"After photos, our survey found that the most important elements of a profile -- in ranking order -- are the self-descriptive paragraph, a person's geographical location and their age," commented Levine. "Race, religion and income appear to have less importance in the overall profile by nearly two to one."
