2004-04-19 Sexual Traits Influence Importance of Money
A newer online dating
service, has put out the results of a survey that revealed
sexual traits such as faithfulness, libido
and jealousy can predict how important money is to
an individual.
Based on a national survey of more than
9,400 men and women, the study concludes the following:

* More commitment to money means less commitment
to personal relationships. Men and women who place
a great
deal of importance on money are less likely to be
faithful in personal relationships than those individuals
who
feel that money is not a top priority.

* Interest in money
and sex go hand-in-hand. The majority of men and
women who are very interested in money tend to have
higher-than-average libido.

* Tendency to be jealous increases as
interest in money increases. Although they tend
to be less faithful in personal relationships, men
and women
who place high importance on money are more likely
to become jealous.

Additionally, the study found that the
amount of importance people place on money tends to
decrease with age, and that money tends to be a slightly
higher priority for women than for men -- except among
persons
aged 60 or older, where men tend to be more interested
in money than women.

"Anyone who has ever been in a serious relationship
is aware that financial issues affect couples more than
just about anything else. So, instead of exploring the
general reasons behind this, we decided to zero-in on
how sex and money affect individuals, specifically whether
a correlation exists between sexual factors -- such as
faithfulness, libido and jealousy -- and a person's interest
in money," said Dr. James Houran, director of psychological

a 14-year veteran in the field of research and clinical
psychology. "What
we learned is that, in fact, a strong correlation does
exist. People tend to form relationships with money,
and the nature of these relationships have a direct impact
on the way we interact with other people. As a person
becomes more involved with money, he or she tends to
be less willing to commit to personal relationships,
including
romantic ones. Such people are also more likely to be
jealous and tend to be more libidinous."
